Going Together Growing Together (Testimony of Teacher Chengda from Cambodia) | 共成長

First of all, I would like to have a heartfelt greeting to the Christians in the country as well as abroad who know me. I am serving at Bahuy AGS School in Pailin Province. Thanks to God and Pastor Jojo allowing me to share my testimony of my life. My name is Sim Chenda and Dom Soken is my wife. We have a nine-year-old boy, named Peter. He is in grade 2 in AGS school. I have 12 siblings. My father is 80 years old, and my mother is 62. We live in Ochra village, Boryakha commune, Pailin city, Pailin province.

Before, I was the one who persecuted Christians and hated Jesus so much.  Though my sister-in-law shared the gospel with me and brought me to go to church, I did not believe in God. Despite of this, God has HIS own plan for me and HE leads me to know and hear the words of HIM. When I went to the Bible School at Kampong Som to study English and Bible (2005-2008), I accepted Jesus. After that, I joined the ministry with AGS on 9 April, 2008.

When I firstly arrived in Bahuy, I only knew Mr. Somol and his wife, so I stayed with them.  For me, it was strange and difficult to live in Bahuy because there was no clean water or electricity. Also, it was hard to buy food.

I started to teach grade 2 at the school. Mr. Somol taught in the morning and I taught in the afternoon. During that time, our school had only two classes, grade 1 and grade 2.  There were only 7 to 8 students per class. Because there was a public school (Bor Taing Su School) in another village , therefore some children went to that public school. Mr. Somol and I had to work hard to mobilize the students. We also needed to teach our students with care and love. We also strove for teaching professionalism.

We did not only taught in day time, we also spent extra time to teach English to the students and other children in the village from 4 to 5 pm. Every night I prayed to Jesus for asking more students to come to AGS school. In 2009, I noticed that more students enrolled in AGS school. The school then started to operate Grade 3. Principal Somol and I were joyful of that. We hope the number of students is getting increase year after year. Principal Somol told me that God had answered our prayers.

I am happy to see a large number of people are able to read and write Khmer alphabet in Bahuy village with our effort.  When the parents noticed the dedicated teaching and our care for their children, they began to trust and value AGS school. They were willing to send their children to the school. With the AGS school expansion, we have more teachers. I have had experience in teaching in grade 4 and 5. I see the efforts of our students in writing and reading. They are working very hard, and they can get high performance in their exam from year to year. Also, our teacher team are attentive and have a high sense of responsibility in teaching. Starting from being a foundation teacher, I am so grateful and thankful that Jesus Christ chose me to be HIS servant and to be a teacher at AGS school for almost 14 years. I am able to help the students who live in remote areas, such as Bahuy village . The student could gain knowledge.

I am thankful that I have seen the fruits as some students can have jobs in the community. Besides, some students even continue their studies at the university .  I hope all graduates can have a good job to help their family, the society and the country . I expect they can be role models and they are able to reach out to other students. The next generation students can see the value of learning and do not drop out the school. Finally, I thank God for HE uses my life to serve him.
